From the Diary of Dorum Deadbeard…

24 Elesias, 1479 DR (Year of the Ageless One)

Again we ascended the tower. The stairs were tight and intricate like the longest braid on an elder Deadbeard. With each step I can hear metal clinks, I know the scales are being set. Judgment is coming, maybe for all of us. Or perhaps my armor just needs adjusting.

As my foot came upon a landing, Cass’s torch went out. Laughter erupted around us, and I knew it wasn’t coming from my beard or Thorgar’s, and that worried me. I lit a sunrod to poke around in my braids and solve this mystery. That’s when I saw them, Dark Creepers surrounding us, but only for a moment for darkness consumed my rod and the room as it had Cass’s melodramatic bass rifts at the last inn we stayed at. Also that torch she had just been holding.

“There is dark magic afoot!” grunted Tetta.

“Not just dark magic DARK CREEPERS! TIS Ah’ TRAP!” I roared.

Several of us were then pierced with a sharp pain.

“ARROWS!”

“I hear them over there.” Cass yelped.

“Where are you pointing?” asked Thorgar. “My beard is out.”

Luckily for us, The Great One judged this fight unfair and balanced the scales. My sunrod flared up, enough to push the shadows away a peg, and for us to see our attackers. Cunning creatures they were but we mercilessly delivered of them to the next world. But the battle was no bearded picnic, for we all spent most of the fight in the dark. I have begun to worry about Tetta and Firebeards contributions to the group because I didn’t see them do anything the whole battle while I was blinded. Thank the gods that we had Cass with her rifts of war, and her lyrics of courage. She personally face melted all of our enemies into the next world to be judged by my master. Cass’s beautiful performance could not have been contrasted more by all the blood Tetta, Firebeard and I got on her clothes and open wounds. That girl is never going to Impress Captain Scionas with us around.

At the summit of the Tower stood Thoron in the midst of some ritual. It was probably to get some hair on that bald chin, by the look of it. I would do anything to prevent this miracle from being interrupted, unfortunately for him and my now unblind eyes, it was to summon the Lady Salarel.

Thoron’s protector must have been the King of all Creepers. Amazingly he stood taller then me and wielded an impressive scythe. The King had two lesser of his kind with him, but they were like a human mustache, weak and well, creepy. Now I understand the name of those monsters.

The fight would have been much more glorious if Tetta had not almost killed Thoron in one colossal strike. The pitiful human already had to hide his shameful beardless face in a cloak of shadow. I looked upon him and his companions like Kelimvor looks upon all those found guilty and now it was time to hand out his judgement. Every time they moved, there I was with my hammer like my Lord’s gavel, striking them down!

In the midst of the battle the Human with the big book, shadow cloak, shadow sword, and invisible beard began to summon the Lady Salarel from the great beyond. But before the weak Thoron could ask his question of how even one as low as he could grow a beard, Tetta had struck him down and the battle was over.

I used my incredible strength given to me by my Lord to knock down the pillars of alabaster holding the dead ghost lady prisoner. Cass too seemed almost as impressed as the ghost woman was of my heroic strength. So happy was the Lady Salarel at me granting her freedom that she answered our quest of the location of the Dragon Egg. She spoke quite frankly:

“It could only be in the Labyrinth of the Minotaurs.”

This concluded the Hand of Faerun’s Incredible and Heroic Adventure in the Scepter Tower of the Spellguard.

Oh, and Brother Turngall hung himself.

No Peaking! Keep Out! <3 Firebeard

23 Elesias, 1479 DR (Year of the Ageless One)

The entrance to a new section of this underground maze was covered in rubble. Tetta’s keen eyes spotted the tracks of a large beast, one worthy enough it seems to send me to my lord, Kelimvor for judgment. I pray my companions are equally ready for the next life.

We soon come upon a good sized room, good enough to rest my weary beard and body… if it were not for the large spiders and Ettercaps waiting for us in ambush. Luckily The Hand had our wits about us and we kept the beginning skirmish at the door, preventing them from swarming us. Unfortunately when we went to finish them off the clever Ettercaps sprung their trap and called in reinforcements at their rear. The battle was fought hard, and the Hand stood victor over yet another foe. We helped ourselves to their loot, six crates that could only be filled the brim with the treasure of a dozen gods, only to find blood, poison and slime. Damn monsters.

Being covered in the muck of a mindless creature seemed to hurt our moral minimally and we continued deeper into the bowels of this dungeon, to see what fate had in store for us next.

As it would happen, it would be a room filled with an odd arrangement of candles and chests. Obviously some ritual was in the works, and I dared not face powerful arcanes without consorting amongst my allies. Even our most ingenious of detection methods found no sort of spell work at play. Still too cautious to deal with this madman’s hook, I treaded past and the vision of some sort of ghost appeared before me. He was tall and had the face of a squid-man. He strode forward to the only closed chest in the room, attempted to open it and was melted like a snowfield before a molten stream. After the vision passed, we examined the chest to find that it was a puzzle. Luckily we had almost all but a few pieces to open it. With that we moved through the room to the next set of staircases, and up up we went.

Up above on the next floor stood a grand hall with impressive chandeliers. A group of gnomes and small creatures feasted merrily, and were not pleased by our intrusion. They were no match for us, of course. Upon the bodies we found the final pieces to the locked chest below. Tetta took the lot and opened the chest, boldly picking the right direction for the trick lock and avoiding the same fate of the squid-man. Inside was a mighty treasure, a powerful wand that Ms. Winchester was more then pleased to collect for herself.

As Kelimvor would judge, our hardest battle lay even further above us. On our way up the staircase we heard the whimpers of a young prisoner, fearful of another round of torture. He was overjoyed to see that it was not his captures. Although weary of the truthfulness of his story, Tetta’s ever-clear insight found no lie amongst his words, and I promptly ripped him fear of his bonds.

Unfortunately for us, that’s when the demon laughed, his dark laugh, and transformed into a terribly large Oni! Before we could even react the demon charmed all of us, except Cass, the only one with the Will to withstand his mental attack. The God of Luck would have it that only Firebeard fell before the Oni into a powerful sleep, and not the whole of us, to have our dreams consumed and our nightmares made flesh.

Although a beard down, we did not faultier in slaying the demon like the many before it, and the many to soon come. We rested our weary bodies and beards, and thankfully Firebeard awoke with little damage to his mind.

Previously on Dungeons and Dragons:

Our heroes find themselves in a canal which they have to swim in to get to the other side of the hallway. Cass and Deadbeard have no problem getting to the otherside while Tetta and Firebeard sink to the bottom almost immediately. Cass throws Deadbeard the rope and he swims back to them. Firebeard is able to swim back using the taut rope while Deadbeard helps Tetta swim to the other side. What should have been a nice swim in calm water turned into a deadly encounter.

After the swim, the heroes soon come to a T intersection and they decide to go left. This brings them to a huge chamber filled with stone slabs. The slabs have grooves in them to collect blood which are stored in urns. Across the room , there is a wooden throne seated upon a pile of coffins. Sitting there acting bored is a vampire priest. The vampire turns to mist and teleports to the adventurers. The vampire continually dominates Deadbeard to force him to attack his allies. He then uses life drain on Deadbeard to gain health back. After a very long battle, the vampire vanishes in a mist swearing that its not over yet. Firebeard picks up his lifedrinker mace to replace his warhammer.

The adventures go back to the T intersection and go in the opposite direction this time. This brings them to a room filled with bones. There was once a great battle here with deaths on both sides. Deadbeard triggers a pressure plate revealing grates by the ceiling. Water starts rushing in as Skeletons start to rise. The party takes care of the skeletons quickly before the water can fill the room. The party has to break down the door which take many tries by Deadbeard. Once past the door, the heroes come to a long hallway leading to a huge door which marks the entrance to the tower of Sceptergard.

Previously on Dungeons and Dragons…

After resting in the Monastery, Tetta and Deadbeard are finally healed from the fever by Firebeard. The adventurers return to the Ramparts where they discover a room full of small Wererats led by a big one. The big wererat carried a magical dagger that could shoot ice rays. The party quickly took care of these guys and finally left the ramparts.

From there they enter the underground parts of Spellgard. The Catacombs are in ruins and are infested with Undead. The heroes find out that fact almost immediately when they find a boneshard skeleton. Before they can engage him, two shadowhunter bats surprise the characters from above. Deadbeard attacks the skeleton while the rest attack the bats. As the skeleton dies, it shoots shards of bone missing all the heroes in its blast. The bats pose no threat to the adventurers and they are easily taken down.

The adventurers have gotten a small taste of the undead and there is no doubt that the Catacombs will offer more.

Previously on Dungeons and Dragons…

The PCs awaken during the middle of the night to horrifying screams. The adventurers follow the screaming and discover Brother Turngall has night terrors. Turngall says he has dreams of Wererats tearing him apart. Deadbeard decides to patrol until dawn while Cass probed Turngall for more information. Firebeard tries to cure Tetta’s Filth Fever but he is only able to stablize her.

The party decides to return to the Ramparts to explore and find Lady Salarel. As they delve deeper into the ramparts they encounter a wererat leading a few grave hounds. The party quickly decimates them all and continues on. They climb down the spiral staircase and come to a Kennel that houses four gray wolves that have not eaten in a long time. The wolves are chained to the wall and instead of leaving them, the PCs decided to slaughter them. The adventurers soon find more wererats and an even tougher opponent, a goblin hexer. The hexer sets up a vexing cloud which makes it hard for the party to see him and his allies. He also uses a blinding hex against Deadbeard multiple times, keeping him from seeing anyone. Deadbeard gets bitten by a wererat, contracting filth fever.

The last battle of the night saw the party against three iron defenders and another hexer. Tetta accidently steps onto a pressure plate activating a dart thrower trap. Cass decides to try and disable the trap while everyone else focuses on the enemies. She finally disables the trap but only after all the enemies were killed.

Enter the Ramparts
Chapter 2

Previously on Dungeons and Dragons…

Last time our adventurers found themselves at the entrance to the Ramparts. This is where they encountered a halfling who they later found out was lying. The halfing transformed into a wererate and attacked the party. After the wererat and his friends were killed the party explored the ramparts going up and down the spiral staircase. On the top floor they met a half-elf who had lost his party. The adventurers believed him to be lying but once they found out he was not, they decided to leave him alone. After another encounter with Wererats, Tetta contracted Filth Fever. The exact effects of the disease are unknown at this time and the party is not sure if they can even heal her.

The adventurers soon discover an alarm bell connecting to a room across the hall. They make a plan to ring the bell while outside the room to trick the enemies into coming out. Once they ring the bell, two spitting drakes blast out followed by 2 humans and a wererat. The party captures one of the human guards and gets him to answer a few questions. He tells them that his leader is Thoran and he is trying to collect Alabaster pillars. The pillars are supposed to trap Lady Salarel so he can use her infinitely. Tetta decides to kill him right before Cass was about to get more information.

The party decides to rest at the monastery since the last battle was very taxing.

The Start of the Hand
Chapter 1

Previously on Dungeons and Dragons…

Our adventurers found themselves in the Gentle Mermaid drinking a few beers. Soon they were given a message that Loranthal Scionas requested their presence. The adventures traveled to the military hall of Waterdeep to meet the Lord Captain of the Hand. Before they entered they learned that Scionas is a man that needs to be saluted always. Upon entering Sciona’s chambers, the PCs see Scionas hovering over a table looking at battle maps. Scionas then tells them that a prophecy has come to light about a dragon being reborn. The PCs must travel to Spellgard to find the Lady Salarel, who will answer one question. Scionas orders the PCs to ask the lady where the egg will be found. The PCs leave Waterdeep and travel to Loudwater which is very close to Spellgard Keep.

After failing a few times to gather information they finally find answers at the Green Tankard Tavern and the Temple of Silvanus. With their new information the PCs set out to the keep. They encounter the Bleeding Wall, which was a wall that literally oozes blood. Then the PCs are ambushed by a group of Kobolds. After dispatching them, the PCs make it to the Monastery where they meet a monk and a Dwarf. They don’t help the PCs much in the way of information but the monk provides them a place to sleep. After waking up the PCs make their way to the ramparts where they encounter an Alabaster pillar surrounded by an arbalester and a couple homunculi. The PCs take down the enemys but now without a few wounds.
